8 Things to do After Your Website is Published

Written by Rachel Greve

Congratulations—your new website is officially live! Now what? Launching a brand new website for your small business is a total game-changer and a huge business milestone. Just by publishing your website, you’re establishing credibility in your industry, boosting your brand identity, improving your businesses’ search results, and staying competitive online.

However, simply having a website isn’t always enough for small businesses in 2021. In other words, launching a new website and getting people to actually visit your site are two different things. Aside from SEO, other digital marketing efforts and implementation really matter when it comes to driving traffic to your newly published website. Here are eight things you need to do after your website is published.

1. Add/update your website on each social media platform

Today, 54% of social media users turn to Instagram for researching products and services. Now more than ever, it’s extremely important that your website and business information is accurate and accessible on each social media platform to ensure visitors are getting to the right place. Include your new website address in the bio of your Instagram and Twitter profiles and the “About” section of your Facebook business page.

Are you currently running any Facebook Ads? If you have updated your domain, make sure those links are all up-to-date and leading social media users to the right place or you might lose out on potential customers.

2. Update your business cards and promotional materials

Although a tad longer process than updating your website on digital platforms, don’t forget to update your business cards and other promotional materials with your new website address. Does your team’s uniform or company vehicles and other signage still have your old website listed? That needs to be updated, too!

3. Share a regular post on your social media profiles promoting your website

Social media is a great and effective tool for driving traffic to your website. Now that you have a brand new website to be proud of, it’s time to announce it on your social media platforms. Send out a tweet, publish an Instagram and Facebook post, and share it on your stories.

Take it from marketing expert and keynote speaker Jay Baer, “The end goal is action, not eyeballs.” When you are posting to social media announcing your new website, don’t simply post the link and publish it. Let customers know what they can find and what to expect once they get there. What action or actions do they need to take to purchase your product?

4. Track website performance in your doneWebs Control Panel

Our ultimate goal at doneWebs is to help small businesses be more competitive in the marketplace by building powerful and effective websites. Track your website performance through your personal Control Panel account. Your website analytics will tell you key metrics such as the number of website visitors, pageviews, visit time, bounce rate, your top performing pages, and more.

It’s important to track your website performance to determine what strategies are working and what needs to be improved. If you’re not tracking performance on a regular basis, then you may not be able to accurately measure visitor trends, content effectiveness, and other factors. If you find areas that could use improvement on your website, reach out to your personal doneWebs representative to discuss strategies for improvement or request changes to your website directly

5. Request testimonials from your customers

Do you know who loves customer testimonials just as much as curious customers? Marketers and business owners. Customer testimonials build trust and authority in any and every industry. Customers want proof before investing their time and money into any business.

In fact, 89% of marketers say that customer testimonials have been the most effective form of content for influencing purchase decisions.

If you didn’t have any testimonials available to include on your website during development, then now is the time to start reaching out to your customer base and requesting testimonials. Testimonials of your product or service are particularly impactful on Google, Yelp, Facebook, and your business website. Multimedia marketing company Wyzowl reports that nine out of 10 people say they trust what a customer says about a business more than what that business says about itself.

6. Send an email to your customers announcing your new website

Despite what some people might say about email, it is still considered one of the most effective ways to connect with your audience and customers today. With more than 4.1 billion email users worldwide in 2021, this digital marketing avenue is an easy and affordable way to promote your new website.

Whether doneWebs has just redesigned your existing website or built you a website from scratch, your customers want to know about it! So, now that your new website is officially live, send your past and previous customers an email to let them know about your website launch and what they can expect to find there.

7. Create a Google My Business, Facebook Business page, & Yelp Business page

If you don’t already have a Google My Business account, Facebook Business page, and/or a Yelp Business page, you should set those up as soon as possible. If you have a Business Subscription with doneWebs and opt for the Google Management feature, we will make sure your Google and Yelp business pages are up and running for your business—hassle-free for your convenience!

Whether you’re just starting to set up your business accounts on Google, Yelp, and Facebook or you’re already using these services, it’s important to make sure your new website is listed and up to date for visitors to find.

8. Spread the news via word of mouth

Lastly, and perhaps the most tried and true way to promote your business and your newly-launched website is by word of mouth. Tell your friends, family, neighbors, customers—new and old. Today, 64% of marketers agree that word of mouth is considered the most effective form of marketing.

So, when you’re checking out a customer at your storefront, sending them a confirmation email, speaking over the phone, or having a face-to-face meeting, let them know that you have a new website and they can always go there to find out more about your business, order again, or work with you again soon in the future.

All in all, launching a new and improved website for your business is guaranteed to help you stand out online. But, it’s important that you help spread the word about your digital storefront so that potential customers can easily find you and purchase from you.
